MovieScore Media just released a soundtrack album for the 2026 action comedy film OPERATION TACO GARY’S with original music composed by JASON LAZARUS. Directed by Michael Kvamme, starring Simon Rex, Brenda Song and Dustin Milligan and produced by Rotten Science and Mosaic, the story follows two brothers embarking on a cross country road trip that quickly devolves when they become involved in a global conspiracy.
“In Operation Taco Gary’s, much of the plot centers on a fictional, westernized Mexican fast food chain: Taco Gary’s. Just as Taco Gary’s is a watered-down, Americanized take on Hispanic cuisine, I wanted the score to be a fast-food version of the way Western culture has filtered and repackaged Hispanic music — the spaghetti western. I’ve always found it fascinating that the iconic sound of the American Wild West was established by an Italian composer, Ennio Morricone, throwing disparate multicultural references into a blender. Normally I’d shy away from such overt pastiche, but here it felt right to lean in as hard as possible. Ultimately this film is about not taking things too seriously — about accepting all the chaos and absurdity life has to offer. I approached the score the same way: not overthinking the creative direction, and instead indulging in over-the-top, gleeful appropriation of trope and cliché in service of having as much fun as possible. The score is undeniably silly, but I’d like to think it has just as much heart.” – Jason Lazarus
