Music Composed by MATTHEW ATTICUS BERGER
Milan Records today released the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack for the film April X, featuring a score by composer Matthew Atticus Berger. Available digitally everywhere today, the album’s release coincides with the film’s worldwide theatrical debut, ahead of its U.S. premiere on October 2. The soundtrack includes the lead single “He Won’t Get Far,” featuring vocals by Amanda Achen.
The film is a sci-fi noir thriller directed by Michel K. Parandi and follows Bax (Connor Storrie) , who when his twin sister April (Lilly Krug) goes missing, searches every corner of their futuristic, post-Soviet cityscape to find her, ultimately descending into madness.
For April X, composer Matthew Atticus Berger puts the human voice front and center, with Amanda Achen singing on every track. The titles alone suggest a world of dark irony and menace: “The Darker the Night (The Brighter the Stars)” sounds wistful, while “I Need More (Some Lazarus Shit),” “Bon Appetit (Not for Sale)” and “I’m Good for It (The Bacon Factory)” sound bleak and sardonic. The album is made up of mostly short pieces, none much longer than four or five minutes, so it feels more like a sequence of vignettes than a sprawling score. The final piece, “La Gloria in G Major,” is a collaboration between Berger and H. Scott Salinas.
Director Michael K. Parandi shares, “Atticus came in with a box of matches and lit the whole thing from underneath. The score doesn’t beg for attention, it stalks the film, then burns you inside out.”
Berger shares, “Scoring ‘April X’ was one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. Michel Parandi gave me a tall order: build an entire score around just a single big drum to represent Bax’s impending doom, and a girl’s voice to represent April. I was lucky to work with Amanda Achen, who understood that objective completely — she didn’t just deliver on the experimental vocal techniques the score demanded, she also brought her classically trained soprano into it in ways that gave the music real range. Connor Storrie’s performance as Bax gave me so much to work with — when the acting is that grounded, I can focus entirely on serving the story. Michel directed something genuinely gorgeous; every frame feels considered, and I wanted the score to live up to how visually stunning the cinematography is. I’m incredibly proud of this one.”
ABOUT MATTHEW ATTICUS BERGER
Matthew Atticus Berger is a film and television composer whose work spans drama, documentary, and unscripted television. A Berklee College of Music alumnus and jazz guitarist by training, Berger has built a prolific career scoring for the screen, with credits including 58 episodes of NBC’s Chicago P.D. across four seasons (2019–2023), and most recently composed the score for April X (2025), starring Connor Storrie, along with The Banker, Dead in the Water, Coyote, and Cold Case Files. His scoring work extends into documentary television as well, with early credits on National Geographic series exploring the natural world, including Kingdom of the Oceans and Patrick and the whale.
Beyond composing, Berger records and performs as a guitarist and producer, with music released across major streaming platforms. Known for a versatile, genre-fluid approach — moving fluidly between orchestral drama, procedural tension, and intimate acoustic work — he brings a musician’s ear and a storyteller’s instinct to every project.
