MovieScore Media released a soundtrack album for the 2025 drama ROSEMEAD. Directed by Eric Lin, starring Lucy Liu, Madison Hu and Lawrence Shou, produced by The Population and Untapped and released by Vertical Entertainment (USA), follows an ailing woman taking drastic measures to protect her troubled teenage son.
“Rosemead has been a very special project for me. It was truly an honor collaborating with director Eric Lin who encouraged me to experiment as we found the movie’s tone. Despite the harrowing story, much of the score exists in counterpoint. There are moments of beauty and life which needed to contrast with where the story eventually unfolds. The unusual glass-like textures of the String Harmonica, lush analog synths and esoteric electronics help to portray a sense of memory. Live percussion from my frequent collaborator Spencer Cohen give the movie its propulsion in the second half of the film, and a sense of a mother’s desperation and panic. This true story is anchored by extraordinary performances from Lucy Liu and Lawrence Shou, and often the score could be minimal and required a light touch. Melody plays a role in contextualizing Joe’s story, foreshadowing his journey as his world unravels.” – Will Bates.
