Hollywood Records releases Alien: Isolation (Original Video Game Soundtrack) with music from composing duo Joe Henson and Alexis Smith, better known as The Flight and Christian Henson with themes by Jerry Goldsmith. The 20-track album releases in celebration of the game’s 10-year anniversary both digitally and on blood green vinyl and motion-tracker green cassette, featuring original packaging art by Nimit Malavia, courtesy of iam8bit.
The Flight reflect on the release, “It’s not often that people are still talking about a ten-year-old video game, but interest in Alien: Isolation, rather like the Xenomorph itself, never quite seems to go away. We constantly get asked about making the soundtrack to this iconic title, and we’re excited that it is finally getting a proper release, so that the fans can at last listen and stream the tracks all these years later.”
Christian Henson adds, “I’m so thankful to have been involved in this project, so it is with deep pride to hear that the OST is being released and we can share the joy we had in making this score.”
ABOUT ALIEN: ISOLATION
Fifteen years after the events of Alien (1979), Ellen Ripley’s daughter, Amanda enters a desperate battle for survival, on a mission to unravel the truth behind her mother’s disappearance. As Amanda, you will navigate through an increasingly volatile world as you find yourself confronted on all sides by a panicked, desperate population and an unpredictable, ruthless Alien. Underpowered and under prepared, you must scavenge resources, improvise solutions and use your wits, not just to succeed in your mission, but to simply stay alive.
ABOUT THE FLIGHT
Ivor Novello award winning duo Joe Henson and Alexis Smith began collaborating in 2005. After realizing they had a similar approach to life and wildly divergent musical tastes, they formed a creative partnership that quickly encompassed songwriting, production, and composition.
The duo have worked with some of the biggest names in the music industry as well as being renowned composers for triple A video games titles. 2014 saw the release of hit survival horror title Alien: Isolation, and they followed this up with Horizon: Zero Dawn, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Horizon Forbidden West, and WB Games Montréal’s Gotham Knights.
The Flight’s television projects include the NETFLIX Series Lockwood & Co, BAFTA nominated BBC documentary series Drugsland, and Kids on the Edge, produced for Channel 4 by Century Films.
Their most recent project sees the duo returning to the popular Assassin’s Creed franchise with the newest game in the series Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The game will take place in 16th century Japan and follow two new characters in the creed’s fight against the Templar order. The game is set to release on Playstation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2025.
ABOUT CHRISTIAN HENSON
Christian recently completed the score for Chris Foggin’s “Bank of Dave 2”, following the success of “Bank of Dave”. He also scored the comedy series “Significant Other” and the feature film “Unwelcome”, his fourth outing with director Jon Wright (“Robot Overlords”, “Grabbers”). Other recent work of note includes the Sky Cinema’s “This is Christmas”, “Rosie Molloy Gives Up Everything” for Sky Comedy, BBC remake of “The Go Between”, ITV’s “Tutankhamun”, ITV’s “Trauma”, and a posthumous collaboration with Jerry Goldsmith, alongside co-writers “The Flight”, on “Alien Isolation” (nominated for ‘Best Score’ at the BAFTAs).
The ninth series of Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton’s multi-award-winning series “Inside No. 9” aired on BBC this year. Christian has now created over 50 totally bespoke scores for each episode of this star-studded cult franchise. Henson notoriously undertakes challenging productions. These include the harrowing holocaust epic “La Rafle”, one of the biggest French films of recent times, Dexter Fletcher’s BAFTA-nominated debut “Wild Bill”, Lee Tamahori’s disturbing “The Devil’s Double”, and a tryptic of insidious horror and comedies from director Christopher Smith (“Severance”, “Black Death” and “Triangle”).
Christian’s heritage is from first-wave Drum and Bass and breakbeat music of the 90′s with acts such as LTJ Bukem and The Freestylers. This DNA is present in all his scores alongside his unique, self-taught approach to working with the orchestra. He has collaborated with an eclectic number of artists for his scores, including Graham Coxon (Blur), Dot Allison (One Dove, Death In Vegas, Massive Attack), Leo Abrahams (Brian Eno), Skye (of Morcheeba), Natasha Khan (of Bat For Lashes), Synergy Vocals (Steve Reich) and Ed Harcourt.
In 2007, Christian co-founded the company “Spitfire Audio”, providing tools for composers the world over. The company has developed a cult global following and has become a generous supporter of the UK music industry.
Christian launched “The Crow Hill Company” in 2023, which provides bespoke music services creating exclusive unique worlds, soundtracks and palettes for studios, broadcasters, and composers alike. The company’s clients include Hans Zimmer (Dune II) and BBC Drama (Poirot).
