Featuring Original Music Composed By Marcelo Zarvos
Varèse Sarabande will release THE AFFAIR Season 2 – Original Television Soundtrack digitally on December 9, 2016. The album features original music from the second season of the acclaimed series, by composer Marcelo Zarvos (FENCES, TV’s RAY DONOVAN).
“With season 2 of THE AFFAIR, just as the story unfolded from 2 to 4 points of view the score also opened up thematically to a much more varied and eclectic sound. In general the music is a little more electronic in nature and some of the thriller aspects of the story come up to the front more,” stated Zarvos. “While on Season 1, we were dealing with our protagonists falling in love, on Season 2 we are very much dealing with the fallout of their affair.” Zarvos went on to say, “The who-done-it aspect of the story becomes increasingly important as the season progresses and is reflected in the score with the more percussive and driving cues.”
At once deeply observed and intriguingly elusive, THE AFFAIR explores the emotional effects of an extramarital relationship. Noah is a New York City schoolteacher and budding novelist with a wife of twenty years and four children. Alison is a young waitress and wife from Montauk at the end of Long Island, trying to piece her life back together in the wake of a tragedy. The provocative drama unfolds separately from multiple perspectives, using the distinct memory biases of each character to tell the story.
With a murder unsolved and a betrayal exposed, the truth is suspect in 12 stunning Season Two episodes of the Golden Globe-winning drama. Shifting between the perspectives of Noah (Dominic West), Alison (Ruth Wilson), Helen (Maura Tierney) and Cole (Joshua Jackson), the story now reveals the complex family ties, passionate betrayals and vengeful emotions that have resulted from the illicit summer liaison. And as the two estranged couples try individually to plan for the future, a new series of deceptions will once again force them to question everything they believed.
Brazilian-born Marcelo Zarvos (THE AFFAIR, RAY DONOVAN) burst onto the indie film landscape in 2001 with his score for KISSING JESSICA STEIN and in 2004 with the film adaptation of the John Irving novel, THE DOOR IN THE FLOOR. Though Zarvos’ training began by studying classical music in his teens he later began delving into jazz and world music. This expansion of influence helped to create Zarvos’ trademark sound – a seamless blend of classical, orchestral, rock, electronic and various ethnic and folk elements, together create uniquely affecting and emotionally charged music.
Zarvos, who earned his BFA from Cal Arts, was named one of the 25 New Faces of Indie Film in 2004 by FilmMaker Magazine. His film credits include THE DOOR IN THE FLOOR, ENOUGH SAID, THE GOOD SHEPHERD, THE WORDS, BROOKLYN’S FINEST, THE FACE OF LOVE, REACHING FOR THE MOON (FLORES RARAS), SIN NOMBRE and HOLLYWOODLAND. Zarvos has been nominated for two Primetime Emmy Awards (for YOU DON’T KNOW JACK and TAKING CHANCE) and two HMMA Awards for BROOKLYN’S FINEST and ENOUGH SAID. His television work includes the hit Showtime series THE AFFAIR, RAY DONOVAN, THE BIG C and the HBO movie PHIL SPECTOR. Zarvos’ projects include an adaptation of the John le Carré novel OUR KIND OF TRAITOR, the sci-fi thriller CELL, and the upcoming film FENCES.
Season 3 of THE AFFAIR is currently streaming Sundays at 10 PM ET/PT on Showtime. Varèse Sarabande will release THE AFFAIR Season 2 – Original Television Soundtrack digitally on December 9, 2016.
