Hollywood Records is excited to announce the release of Nightbitch (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), featuring a hauntingly original score by composer Nate Heller and captivating vocals from King Isis. The soundtrack includes an original end credit song, “Summer Blue,” an otherworldly ethereal ballad, written by Nate Heller and beautifully performed by Heller and King Isis.
The soundtrack accompanies Searchlight Picture’s Nightbitch, an exhilarating and unsettling journey into motherhood, identity, and surreal transformation, as depicted in the upcoming film directed by Marielle Heller. The album’s score, a deeply personal and collaborative creation, captures the film’s complex emotional landscape—both delicate and disorienting—reflecting the existential metamorphosis of its protagonist (Amy Adams) through evocative melodies, eerie textures, and surprising moments of whimsy. Heller, whose personal connection to the project runs deep, crafts a unique soundscape that draws on his longstanding creative relationship with his sister, Nightbitch director Marielle Heller.
Nightbitch opens in theaters on December 6, 2024. The film will stream on Hulu starting December 27, 2024.
Heller reflects on the score, “I’ve been fortunate to collaborate with loved ones on many projects, and one of the greatest joys is watching an idea grow from seed to fruition. When my sister Mari sent me an early draft of Nightbitch during lockdown, I was immediately inspired, writing a demo called “Silver Moon” that became the foundation for the score. As we continued working on the music, we wanted it to feel unsettling yet delicate, complex but endearing. We even created an original song for a children’s performer in the first act, “What’s Up with That Duck?” The score really took shape through live performances, with King Isis contributing her voice to complement the character arc. Working with friends and collaborators on this deeply personal project made the process all the more fulfilling.”
ABOUT NIGHTBITCH:
A woman (Amy Adams) pauses her career to be a stay-at-home mom, but soon her new domesticity takes a surreal turn.
From filmmaker Marielle Heller comes NIGHTBITCH, adapted from writer Rachel Yoder’s 2021 novel which received glowing reviews worldwide with critics calling it ‘a stunning modern feminist fable’. The idea for the story had come to Yoder when she unexpectedly dropped out of the workforce as a new mother. “I was by myself, a stay home mom, something I never thought I’d be,” she had said. “I found myself in this sort of malaise, not knowing who I was, and having really lost myself. Nightbitch was born out of that silence.”
ABOUT NATE HELLER
The path to becoming a composer for film scores is not standard by any means, and Nate has had an interesting journey. His early days were spent touring nationally with his band Wendy Darling, whose success opened doors in the world of film and television. When the road grew weary, he decided to try his hand at composing. His first feature film score accompanied the critically acclaimed, Sundance and Berlin winning “The Diary Of A Teenage Girl.’” He followed with two Academy nominated films – “Can You Ever Forgive Me” and “A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood,” the latter earning him a Grammy nomination and a BMI Award. Upcoming projects include the highly anticipated “Nightbitch” starring Amy Adams, and “Turn Me On,” with Bel Powely.
