Original Music by Academy Award® Nominated composer Hauschka
Lakeshore Records has announced the release of the soundtrack album for James Franco’s drama In Dubious Battle. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award nominee Hauschka (aka Volker Bertelmann) (Lion, The Boy). The soundtrack will be released digitally on March 3, 2017.
Set in California apple country in the 1930s, nine hundred migratory workers rise up and join forces to protest unfair wages and working conditions. As the labor strike wears on and conflict grows between the apple pickers and the local growers’ association, what begins as a fight for their rights turns into an all-out battle for survival in this star-studded re-telling of John Steinbeck’s beloved novel.
In select theaters, On Demand and Digital HD on February 17, 2017.
Hauschka is a composer, songwriter and experimental musician who uses prepared piano as his primary instrument. The prepared piano refers to the technique of resting pieces of paper, marbles, drumsticks and other objects on the strings to produce odd, sometimes randomly generated sounds that move the instrument in unexpected directions. His albums of prepared piano music include The Prepared Piano, a solo record of spontaneous improvisations; Ferndorf, featuring arrangements for cello, trombone, violin and piano; Salon des Amateurs, with drummers Samuli Kosminen (múm), and Joey Burns and John Convertino (Calexico); Silfra, an improvised collaboration with classical violinist Hilary Hahn and Abandoned City.
His recent project includes scoring the feature film Lion. His original music for the film has been nominated for an Academy Award®, a Golden Globe, and Critics Choice Award.
