Featuring Original Music By Pedro Bromfman

Lakeshore Records will release the soundtrack for the documentary DEEP WEB digitally on November 20, 2015.  The album features the film’s original score by Pedro Bromfman (ROBOCOP, NARCOS)

“DEEP WEB is about technology, the internet, hackers, cyber crime, encryption, etc … its characters are brilliant individuals, pushing the boundaries of technology, whether you consider some of them libertarians or criminals,” said Bromfman. “The idea was to address those themes in the music and Alex Winter, DEEP WEB’s director, and I agreed we needed an electronic score to underline the tech element at the core of the film. We wanted the electronic elements that populate the score, the synthesizers, pulses, mallets and processed strings, to sound deep and alive. We used technology and synthesizers but we were attempting to create an organic sounding score.”

DEEP WEB gives the inside story of one of the most important and riveting digital crime sagas of the century – the arrest of Ross William Ulbricht, the convicted 30-year-old entrepreneur accused to be ‘Dread Pirate Roberts,’ creator and operator of online black market Silk Road. The film explores how the brightest minds and thought leaders behind the Deep Web are now caught in the crosshairs of the battle for control of a future inextricably linked to technology, with our digital rights hanging in the balance.

In addition to being the only film with exclusive access to the Ulbricht family, DEEP WEB features the core architects of the Deep Web; anarchistic cryptographers who developed the Deep Web’s tools for the military in the early 1990s; the dissident journalists and whistleblowers who immediately sought refuge in this seemingly secure environment; and the figures behind the rise of Silk Road, which combined the security of the Deep Web with the anonymity of cryptocurrency.

“I needed to constantly remind myself of the importance of scoring the human element of the film,” Bromfman explained. “DEEP WEB looks at cyber crime / cyber security and we can forget we’re dealing with real individuals, like Ross Ulbricht, a 30 year-old man who may be going to jail for the rest of his life.  Cyber law is still in its infancy, some of the legal precedent being established in these early lawsuits and trials, may affect the lives and privacy of generations to come. It was really important for the music to highlight the human element throughout the film, reason why DEEP WEB has a very personal and emotional score, albeit haunting and dark.”

Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Pedro Bromfman is a Cum Laude graduate from Berklee College of Music, he has worked as a session musician, music producer and arranger before his passion for film scores brought him to Los Angeles to study film scoring at UCLA. His credits include TROPA DE ELITE (ELITE SQUAD), winner of the Golden Bear at the 2008 Berlin Film Festival; THEY KILLED SISTER DOROTHY, directed by Academy Award® winner Daniel Junge and narrated by Martin Sheen; MARCH OF THE LIVING, directed by Oscar nominated and Sundance winner Jessica Sanders; TROPA DE ELITE 2 (ELITE SQUAD: THE ENEMY WITHIN), the most successful Latin-American film to date; the romantic comedy and Brazilian blockbuster QUALQUER GATO VIRA-LATA and G-DOG, directed by Academy Award winner Freida Mock.

Pedro has earned an ASCAP Award, two Gold Medals for Excellence in Film Music at the Park City Film Music Festival, was nominated for two Cinema Brazil Grand Prizes (Brazilian Oscars), an ACIE Award, and a Premio Contigo! De Cinema. He has recently worked on the music for the video game MAX PAYNE 3, the international co-production BLUE LIPS, RIO, I LOVE YOU and the score for the MGM reboot of ROBOCOP, starring Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman and Michael Keaton. His recent scores include the NETFLIX original series NARCOS and FOX’s RIO HEAT, starring Harvey Keitel.
