DEAD END / DOOD SPOOR – Original Series Soundtrack

Sonhouse Records will release LACHLAN ANDERSON’s mesmerizing score to Canneseries Competition title ‘DEAD END / DOOD SPOOR’ on Monday 28 APRIL

Malin-Sarah Gozin’s dark-comedy thriller is one of the 8 projects taking part in the festival’s prestigious competition.

Created, written, and directed by Malin-Sarah Gozin, and co-directed by Hans Vercauter, Dead End stars Peter Van den Begin and Elise Schaap. The story follows Ed Bex, a man with a bizarre gift: when he tastes something, he sees flashes of its past. Ed runs a one-man operation called The Aftertaste, helping grieving families uncover the final moments of their loved ones through his disturbing talent. It’s a series that blends psychological intrigue, grief, and dark humor — and Anderson’s score mirrors all of it.

“This score turned out to be more personal and emotional than I expected,” said Anderson. “A nice mix of unexpected unease, weirdness, and emotional warmth.”

Anderson worked closely with the Budapest Art Orchestra for the orchestral themes and collaborated with a range of musicians including solo violinists Joni Fuller and Peau Halapua, and bassoonist Jessica Goldbaum, whose haunting performances helped shape the musical identities of key characters. “I’d been wanting to work with bassoon for a while,” Anderson added. “I ended up using it for Gaby and Arlette’s arc — it felt right for their story.

The process began early: Anderson was on board from the script stage, diving into sonic experimentation by recording the sounds of boiling water, clanging pots and pans, and preparing food — a literal nod to the show’s core themes of taste and memory. These found sounds were folded into atmospheric textures, helping to construct Dead End’s distinct auditory world.

“We meet some very interesting characters in the series — each one got their own sonic palette. I approached it with minimalism for the investigative moments, but with emotional depth for Ed’s journey,” Anderson explained. “It was a natural, rewarding collaboration with Malin, Hans and the team — we built a lot of the musical storytelling together during the edit.”
