Hollywood Records is proud to announce the release of Bad Sisters Season 2 Apple Original Series Soundtrack, featuring the visionary musical talents of PJ Harvey and the formidable composing prowess of Tim Phillips. After their successful collaboration on the first season, the duo has once again come together to craft a haunting and atmospheric score that perfectly complements the darkly comedic and suspenseful narrative of the Apple TV+ series. The album is available today, on all digital platforms.
Season two of the award-winning comedic drama from Emmy Award-nominated and BAFTA Award winning creator and star Sharon Horgan premiered November 13 on Apple TV+. The first two episdodes of “Bad Sisters” season two are now streaming on Apple TV+, and new episodes will become available every Wednesday through December.
Harvey remarks, “It was a huge pleasure to be invited to step into the studio again with Tim Phillips to create the soundtrack for ‘Bad Sisters’ Season 2. Having formed friendships with Tim and Sharon on season 1, there was a level of trust and openness which was conducive to creativity.
“Our version of ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’ is full of the passion we hold for the original song, but also imbued with the spirit of the new series and its narrative.”
Phillips shares, “I’m super excited to see the reaction to season 2 of ‘Bad Sisters’ and I think audiences will love where this story goes next. It was a thrill to get back into the studio with Polly Harvey and make some new sounds, and the fact that most of the original production team returned made it even better!”
As Horgan explains, “The music for ‘Bad Sisters’ season 1 was so well received that we of course felt we had to match it or better it for season 2. We all wanted it to feel like the first season but for there to be a real sense of a new direction too. And Tim Philips really went for it; new arrangements, compositions, new instrumentation, new influences. Each new character has their own musical motif. Polly wanted to ring the changes too. She wanted to move on to a more traditional choral sound at times, to use narrative from the show in her lyrics, almost like a greek chorus at times. This was then distorted or played with. The development of the score across the 8 episodes was very exciting to watch grow. One thing we knew we wanted to do was have Polly’s voice wherever we could. It was so effecting in the first season. We used her voice to mark any emotionally stand out moments. It gave me goosebumps. She did a cover of ‘Run On,’ made famous by Johnny Cash, in season 1 and we just loved it and so we thought let’s get another cover this time. We suggested a bunch that could work but Polly decided instead to do ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’ by Joy Division. I remember Tim telling me about it but i had no idea it would be as brilliant as it is, so much so that we decided to use as the final song in ep 1.”
