Music composed and Conducted by CAMERON MOODY

20th Television and Hollywood Records are excited to release Washington Black (Original Soundtrack) today. Composer Cameron Moody, a rising voice in film and television music, has crafted a sweeping, emotionally resonant score for the new series, drawing on a lifetime of musical passion and a journey that began in Atlanta and led to the legendary scoring stages of Hollywood. All eight episodes of the limited series are available on Hulu.

“Conducting is like lining up in front of a golf ball.  It’s peaceful.  It’s terrifying,” Moody says.  “But once you load up and swing and you hear the music come alive… there are very few things like it.”

Moody’s path to “Washington Black” began with a childhood fascination with “Star Wars” and a relentless curiosity for film music. After a formative year at NYU’s Screen Scoring program, a chance encounter with composer Michael Abels (“Get Out,” “Us, Nope”) led to a three-year apprenticeship that shaped Moody’s professional foundation.

“I was moonlighting as a composer while being a student during the day… it very quickly became unmanageable,” he recalls. “So, I finished out that semester, dropped out, and spent the next three years as Michael’s assistant.”

The score for “Washington Black” reflects the show’s global journey from Barbados to the Artic and its emotional core. “If I had to describe the score in one word, it would be ‘classic.’ We wanted it to feel big and appropriate for the size of the story,” Moody explains. “This is really a story about freedom and the lengths a person will go to achieve that.”

Moody recorded the score at the historic Fox scoring stage, standing on the same podium once graced by legends like John Williams and Jerry Goldsmith. “That was something I dreamed of when I was a kid, and I got to do it,” he says.

With the Washington Black (Original Soundtrack), Cameron Moody has not only delivered a score of cinematic scope and emotional nuance, he’s also announced himself as a bold new voice in screen music.
