Music Composed and Arranged by Devon Goldberg

Country Club Records will release the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack to the dark comedy The Last Porno Show from director Kire Paputts, which was an official selection at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival and After Hours selection at the 2019 Torino Film Festival. The original score is composed and arranged by Devon Goldberg and performed by Morricone Youth. The soundtrack will be released digitally and on CD on July 31, to coincide with the film’s VOD release. The limited edition 150g black vinyl is available now via Light in the Attic Records, Revolver/Midheaven, and morriconeyouth.com. The score was performed by the live film score band Morricone Youth, with assistance from Cochemea Gastelum (Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings), Sean McCaul (Philip Glass Ensemble), Karen Waltuch (JG Thirlwell, Jim O’Rourke) and Scott Hollingsworth (World Inferno Friendship Society). Morricone Youth is a collective of musicians formed in New York City in 1999 with the mission statement to compose and re-interpret “music written for the moving image.” Devon Goldberg on crafting the score: “The director Kire Paputts had a specific sound in mind, but was much more focused on what he did not want for each theme and cue. We discussed from the beginning, a soundtrack release in conjunction with the film, which might have helped push the score into a more melodic and upbeat direction in telling the story. I assumed he’d want a dark, intense and maybe even heavier score based on the film’s edgy content when, in fact, he preferred the opposite; a sweet, playful and at times anthemic score, to counterbalance the visuals on screen and represent the soul of the characters.  As vibraphones became a big part of the instrumentation, it was particularly exciting to work with Sean McCaul who has performed on a number of Philip Glass scores.  Additionally, recording upstate in the Catskills afforded me the opportunity to reconnect with some old musician friends including former bandmate Cochemea Gastelum to cover the sax and flutes.”

ABOUT THE LAST PORNO SHOW

Written and directed by Kire Paputts, The Last Porno Show features first-time actors, exhibitionists and obscure but beloved Toronto artists to tell an unforgettable father-son story through the lens of obsession, pornography and identity crises.  Struggling method actor Wayne (Nathanael Chadwick) inherits the city’s last porno cinema from his estranged father.  While initially hesitant to embrace the theater, Wayne quickly realizes that closing its doors is not as easy as he had hoped.  Instead, Wayne finds himself working to keep the struggling theater alive, and it’s not long before he is sucked into the world from which his father tried so hard to protect him.  Soon he finds himself in a downward spiral as his sense of identity falls into a seedy fantasy world surrounded by former porn actors, half-naked theater patrons and exploitative personalities. Kire Paputts is an award-winning Toronto-based producer and director whose first feature film The Rainbow Kid (distributed by A71) had its world premiere at TIFF 2015.  The Last Pogo Jumps Again, a 2012 documentary co-directed with Colin Brunton (Schitt’s Creek) about Toronto’s first wave punk scene, was recently re-released on DVD by Screamin’ Banshee.  Kire’s shorts have screened internationally at film festivals such as TIFF, SXSW, VIFF and The Edinburgh International Film Festival.  For more information, please visit: lastpornoshow.com
