Music Composed by PAUL LEONARD-MORGAN

MovieScore Media latest release is the enigmatic, electronica based-score for THE NUMBERS STATION, courtesy of composer Paul Leonard-Morgan (LimitlessDredd). Kasper Barfoed’s 2013 thriller starring John Cusack and Malin Akerman follows the latest mission of a disgraced black ops agent Emerson Kent (Cusack) who is sent to a remote CIA broadcast station to protect a code operator named Katherine (Akerman). The distant station becomes the claustrophobic setting for a race against time in an attempt to stop a deadly plot – by combining their own particular strengths and resources, Emerson and Katherine become the perfect team to unravel the mystery surrounding them.

The score by Paul Leonard-Morgan is based upon the central gimmick of the film, namely the untangling of numerical codes that appear as patterns and derivations in the music. “The numbers permanently broadcast on a radio frequency got me thinking about different pulses and electronic rhythms and how I could use those without achieving a traditional morse code effect“ explains the composer. “Throughout the score, I used different motifs based on the rhythmic “ticking” of the numbers. It comes through the pulsing bass line and transfers to the ticking percussion and the rhythm of the electric guitar. In the same way, the thought of all these radio frequencies led me to start experimenting with distortion on guitar, and using the guitar in a non-traditional style.“

BAFTA winning and Ivor Novello nominated composer Paul Leonard-Morgan is rapidly becoming one of the most sought-after film composers in the UK and the US.  His most important credits include Neil Burger’s Limitless and Pete Travis’ Dredd, a gritty reboot of the classic comic book character. Most recently Paul recently scored the action thriller The Numbers Station and the animated family adventure Walking with Dinosaurs 3D. His most recent release with MovieScore Media was Legendary, the 2013 action adventure film whose Chinese monsters inspired the composer to create one of his most epic scores to date.
