Screamworks Records gives the digital premiere of Arturo Rodríguez’s THE MAID’S ROOM, previously issued on CD by Kronos Records. Written and directed by Michael Walker, The Maid’s Room is a physiological thriller set in the affluent area of Long Island. Attractive Latina immigrant Drina (Paula Garcés) takes a job as a live-in maid at the home of the Crawfords (Bill Camp, Annabella Sciorra), a well-to-do New York family. Drina’s duties include taking care of their pampered son Brandon (Philip Ettinger), but there are some tasks that weren’t listed in the original application. When Drina notices a new damage on Brandon’s car, then later reads about a fatal hit-and-run accident, she puts the two things together…

The dark and mysterious musical score is provided by Mexican composer Arturo Rodríguez. Born in Monterrey, Mexico, Rodríguez’s musical studies include the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, Texas Christian University and Butler University. He is a Sundance Music Lab Composer Fellow (2010) and has been a participant for the ASCAP Film Scoring Workshop (2003) and the 11th New York University Composers Seminar (2003). He has worked as an orchestrator with composers like Osvaldo Golijov and Stewart Copeland; he participated in the scores of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag – Freedom Cry (2013), Elemental (2012),Zipper (2014) and Francis Ford Coppola’s Twixt (2011).

The score is anchored by Drina’s Theme, a motive featuring a discrete piano solo and woodwinds, accompanied by the occasional harp and later, a strings section. The simple theme frequently appears in the score, creating a false sense of security about the proceedings and even hinting at ulterior motives for the main heroine. The music grows more intense and darker as the innocent immigrant gets more entangled in the dark mysteries of the New York elite, this transformation works as masterfully in the film as it does on the album. Following the prior CD release by Kronos Records, Arturo Rodríguez’s first commercially released score is finally available on digital platforms.
