Varèse Sarabande will release the Pride and Prejudice and Zombies – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on February 5 and on CD February 19, 2016. The album features the original music by composer Fernando Velázquez (CRIMSON PEAK, THE IMPOSSIBLE).
 
A zombie outbreak has fallen upon the land in Jane Austen’s classic tale of the tangled relationships between lovers from different social classes in 19th century England. Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet (Lily James) is a master of martial arts and weaponry and the handsome Mr. Darcy (Sam Reilly) is a fierce zombie killer, yet the epitome of upper class prejudice. As the zombie outbreak intensifies, they must swallow their pride and join forces on the blood-soaked battlefield.
 
Fernando Velázquez is a Spanish-born film composer whose credits include the score to The Impossible starring Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts. In spite of his young age, Fernando Velázquez already had experience in the world of cinema, and especially in the terror genre, having composed movies like Devil (written & produced by M Night Shyamalan) and the Guillermo del Toro produced feature The Orphanage (earning him a Discovery of the Year nomination at the World Soundtrack Academy Awards).   His other remarkable credits include The BackWoods starring Gary Oldman and Savage Grace starring Julianne Moore.
Fernando’s experience as an accomplished cello player in various orchestras and his training in conservatories as “Jesus Guridi” from Vitoria and composition studies in the RCSM Madrid and Paris are the foundations of his talent. Fernando often uses his past experience of performing as a cellist in the pit orchestra at Madrid’s Teatro Real Opera as inspiration in his film compositions.  When asked about his career as a composer, he elates, “I love what I do and I feel so grateful I can do it for a living.”  When he’s not busy composing, he enjoys playing guitar in rock bands – a passion of his from an early age.
In 2008 Velázquez earned the Jerry Goldsmith Award for Young Composer by the then called International Film Music Conference of Úbeda.  Fernando’s score to The Orphanage went on earn many nominations including from The World Soundtrack Awards, The Goya Awards, The European Film Awards, The Barcelona Film Awards and earned The Cinema Writers Circle Award.  Fernando’s most recent projects include Brett Ratner’s action-adventure Hercules, Guillermo del Toro’s Mama and Crimson Peak.
