OTICONS FACULTY FILM MUSIC COMPETITION: THE PREMISE

Oticons Ltd., the newest and most ambitious Agency for Film Composers right now in the
world, announces the Oticons Faculty Film Music Competition. This event aims to become a
game‐changer in the industry by discovering, nurturing and cultivating film composing talents with
a unique voice.
“The Oticons Faculty Competition wants to raise awareness of Quality in music. This is an
aspect that hasn’t been identified as such up to now”, said Academy Award‐winning composer Rachel
Portman, 2014 Competition Jury Member. Indeed the Oticons Faculty initiative is unique. Starting
on April 20th 2014, for Oticons this project is a mission and a calling.
It is not a secret, especially among film industry professionals, that though music is as
important an element in film as ever, nowadays the general impression is that many scores are far
too predictable, or sound pretty much like each other.
Action to tackle this challenge is the motivation behind Oticons decision to launch the
Oticons Faculty Film Music Competition on April 20th 2014. The aspiration is to repeat the event
every year, hopefully contributing to a re‐shaping of the future of film music.

OTICONS FACULTY FILM MUSIC COMPETITION: THE STRUCTURE

Every step of the Competition will be taken online on the dedicated Oticons Faculty
website’s multi‐layered platform (http://faculty.oticons.com). From 20th April until June 8th 2014,
any composer, from anywhere around the world, of any background of any age is eligible to apply.
The 10 finalists in the second round will then be announced on the 1st July 2014!
