Featuring Original Music By Composer Rob Simonsen

Lakeshore Records will release the NERVE – Original Motion Picture Score digitally July 29th and on CD soon thereafter. The album features the film’s original score by composer Rob Simonsen (FOXCATCHER, THE AGE OF ADALINE) for Lionsgate’s edgy new film in theaters July 27. The soundtrack also features the original track “Let’s Play” performed by Simonsen and White Sea (Morgan Kibby, former band member of M83) – an energetic synth-driven track with an 80s vibe.

Industrious high school senior, Vee Delmonico [Emma Roberts], has had it with living life on the sidelines. When pressured by friend to join the popular online game Nerve; Vee decides to sign up for just one dare in what seems like harmless fun. But as she finds herself caught up in the thrill of the adrenaline-fueled competition partnered with a mysterious stranger [Dave Franco], the game begins to take a sinister turn with increasingly dangerous acts, leading her into a high stakes finale that will determine her entire future.

“The directors Ariel Schulman, Henry Joost and I talked before shooting started, and discussed about using a lot of synthesizers and drawing from an 80’s vibe,” said Simonsen “This worked out great as I hoping the score would reflect the excitement of the film- electricity through the nervous system, always playing on your nerves.”

Film composer, musician, and music producer Rob Simonsen has established a reputation amongst a new wave of composers as a keen musical storyteller. He cut his teeth alongside mentor Michael Danna, with whom he scored Marc Webb’s indie hit (500) DAYS OF SUMMER. Simonsen provided additional music for other films including Bennett Miller’s MONEYBALL and Ang Lee’s LIFE OF PI, which won four Academy Awards including Best Original Score.

Independently, Simonsen has garnered two 2013 World Soundtrack Award nominations for two Sundance hits: James Ponsoldt’s THE SPECTACULAR NOW and Nat Faxon and Jim Rash’s THE WAY, WAY BACK. That same year, he scored the global ad launch for Apple’s iPhone 5 and provided the iconic piano music for their “Everyday” campaign. He has also provided scores for FOXCATCHER, THE AGE OF ADALINE, WISH I WAS HERE, and upcoming films GOING IN STYLE, BASTARDS and GIFTED.

“We came up with the idea of using a children’s choir to capture a sort of innocence of these kids doing crazy dares and being nonchalant about playing with life and death,” Simonsen described. “We didn’t want a formal church-type of choir, but something that felt more loose and informal. The kids were such a joy to work with.”
