Featuring Original Score By ROB
Lakeshore Records will release the HORNS – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack album digitally on October 14th and on CD November 4, 2014. The album features original score by ROB (aka Robin Coudert) (MANIAC, POPULAIRE).
“This was my second experience working with Alex Aja [director],” explained ROB. “We had so much fun on MANIAC, and we get along so naturally, so it was a real pleasure to be chosen for HORNS. It was very challenging at the same time, because we had to create something totally new and different.”
ROB continued, “I think the fact that we are the same age, and come from the same background helps us to create together very naturally, without having to explain everything. We share the same sensitive vision of darkness and fear, something very that’s both naïve and innocent.”
ROB is a French musician and composer born in Caen. He has scored films including BELLE EPINE, JIMMY RIVIÈRE, RADIOSTARS, and MANIAC. In addition to his composer career, ROB is a touring member and studio musician for the band Phoenix.
Ig Perrish (Daniel Radcliffe) is accused for the violent rape and killing of his girlfriend, Merrin Williams (Juno Temple). After a hard night of drinking, Ig awakens, hungover, to find horns growing out of his head; they have the ability to drive people to confess sins and give in to selfish impulses. Ig decides to use this effective tool to discover the circumstances of his girlfriend’s death and to seek revenge by finding the true murderer.
“The idea for HORNS was to shine a light on the love story. The movie had to start like a sentimental drama, to share Ig’s pain and dive slowly with him into hell,” said ROB. “The concept of growing horns is so weird, I wanted to keep the feeling that everything is (almost) normal, sad but normal, until the horns show up.”
Once the horns did show up, said ROB “Then, I had to add little by little the tone of the fantastic and surreal. I used very cold sounds to fit the views of the forest, like a beautiful instrument called Glass Harmonica, which sounds like crystal glasses bowed. I also mixed a lot of rock instruments with the classical orchestra, like a smooth and sad pianet, electric bass or synth… Again, the thing was to keep the emotional part strong throughout the movie, just as if Ig become the nicest demon you can imagine, the kind that makes you cry when it burns in hell.”
