Featuring Original Music By Zoë Poledouris-Roché & Angel Roché Jr.

Varèse Sarabande Records will release THE HERO OF COLOR CITY – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on October 7th and on CDOctober 28, 2014, featuring original songs and score composed by Zoë Poledouris-Roché & Angel Roché Jr. The first digital single from the album is the joyful song “Color the World,” performed by the duo accompanied by a children’s chorus, to be released on September 30th.

Zoë Poledouris-Roché & Angel Roché Jr. are partners that translate the experience of their life together into a tapestry of rock, urban, indie, punk and orchestral music.

A Fellow of the Sundance Institute Composer’s Lab, Zoë boasts songwriting and scoring credits for major motion pictures (STARSHIP TROOPERS, SHADOW OF DOUBT) and multiple festival favorites (WHITE OF WINTER). She is the eldest daughter of late film composer Basil Poledouris.

Angel spent his childhood playing drums for his father’s salsa band in Chicago. His arrival in LA landed him gigs with Revolver, Dave Navarro and Mellowdrone, which led to being enlisted as recording and touring percussionist for multiple Grammy® award-winner Ziggy Marley, a position he held for 11 years.

Each night, when Ben falls asleep, his Crayons jump into their magical Crayon Box, which transports them to their home in COLOR CITY, a world of dazzling hues, soaring fantasy and the whimsy of childhood. This land is fed by an enchanted rainbow and waterfall that provides the City and its citizens with color.

When YELLOW, our timid heroine, is accidentally left behind in Ben’s room, she inadvertently awakens two Unfinished Drawings: KING SCRAWL, a huge, powerful, mute monster — and GNAT, Scrawl’s motor-mouthed, overactive sidekick. In search of color for themselves, they follow Yellow to Color City, causing panic and concern. If Scrawl and Gnat can claim the waterfall for themselves, Color City will fade, and along with it, our lovable crayon characters will disappear.

It’s up to Yellow and a motley crew of Crayons, bodacious and brave, BLUE, meticulous, fussy GREEN, satirical RED, pessimistic BLACK and overanxious WHITE to save the day. Meeting with fantastical creatures and fun adventures along the way, Yellow discovers she has more courage and strength than she knew and learns to believe in herself and to count on the support of her friends.

Replete with valuable life lessons, this enchanting story will entertain and inspire in a stunningly rendered and utterly unique animated world.  The cast includes Christina Ricci, Sean Astin, Owen Wilson, Rosie Perez, Jessica Capshaw, Craig Ferguson, and Wayne Brady.

“When I was very young my father played me a recording of Prokofiev’s ‘Peter and the Wolf’,” explained Poledouris-Roché.  “He explained to me that each instrument represented a character in the story, a fact I loved. It taught me that music could be an important part of storytelling. I could hear nuance and relationships illustrated without having to see any characters on a stage or screen.”  Influenced by Prokofiev, they decided to match each color with an instrument:

Yellow-Trumpet | Blue-Trombone | Green-Bassoon | White-Clarinet | Black-Tuba |

Red-Saxophone | Pink-Harp | Brown-Banjo | Prof. Heliotrope-Bass Trombone |

King Scrawl-Organ | Nat-Pizzicato Strings | Color City-Percussion & Rhythm Beds |

Magnolia Pictures and Exodus Film Group present THE HERO OF COLOR CITY, in theaters and on iTunes on October 3, 2014. THE HERO OF COLOR CITY – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack from Varèse Sarabande Records will be available digitally on October 7th and on CD October 28, 2014.
