Music composed by DAVE PORTER

Milan Records today releases PLURIBUS: VOLUME 1 (APPLE ORIGINAL SERIES SCORE) featuring music by acclaimed composer DAVE PORTER for Breaking Bad creator and Better Call Saul co-creator Vince Gilligan’s new science fiction series for Apple TV, produced by Sony Pictures Television. Available everywhere now, the album includes original score music from the first half of the season and will be followed by a secondary volume of music to be released alongside the Season 1 finale on Friday, December 26. The project is the latest in a longstanding creative partnership between Vince Gilligan and Dave Porter, with the composer crafting an entirely new sound for the science fiction drama, recording for the first time ever with a symphony orchestra and full choir. Starring Rhea Seehorn, who earned two Emmy nominations for her acclaimed performance in Better Call Saul, Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV – watch here.

Also debuting today are two featured songs from montages in this week’s episode – “Sumac” by Mexican producer and DJ Loris and “Vessel (Pluribus Edit)” by UK composer John Lemke. Sourced by Pluribus music supervisor Thomas Golubić, the tracks debut alongside each weekly episode, with Apple Music launching an official “Music from Pluribus” playlist updated each week with the new releases – listen here

Of the series’ music, VINCE GILLIGAN says, “Having collaborated with them now for nearly two decades, Dave Porter and Thomas Golubić continue to surprise and delight me. Their artistry increases each year, as does their enthusiasm. I can’t imagine doing a show without them.

When we started talking about Pluribus, we knew it would have a global scope. But how could we express that musically? Apple TV, God bless them, encouraged us to take bigger swings than we’d ever taken before. For the first time, Dave was able to have his compositions performed by a symphony orchestra and full choir. And Thomas was able to commission the creation of songs by artists all over the world. What a step up that is from only being able to license existing recordings!

Apple and Sony’s generosity has been put to magnificent use. I couldn’t be more impressed by Dave’s and Thomas’ efforts this season. It may be their best work yet, and I’m excited for you to hear it.”

Of the score, composer DAVE PORTER says, “I’ve been so fortunate to collaborate with Vince Gilligan on all of his incredible projects, but Pluribus is special in that it is the first time since the pilot of Breaking Bad that we’ve had the opportunity to create an entirely new world to explore.  For me, this was an exciting chance to take all that we have learned working together down to the studs and create an entirely new musical landscape that is uniquely Pluribus.”

Meanwhile, speaking of the series’ featured songs, music supervisor THOMAS GOLUBIĆ says, “Creating international covers of recognizable pop songs was our idea for the closing of each episode of Pluribus. Once we explored the concepts in the series and saw a parallel to themes of revolution and enlightenment in the counter-culture anthems from the late 1960s and 1970s, music coordinator Olivia Schlichting and I reached out to some of our favorite non-English language artists and paired them with songs that resonated creatively. We are delighted with these very unique and inspired interpretations and are excited for our audience to discover them with each episode.”

ABOUT DAVE PORTER

Dave Porter is a Los Angeles based composer for film and television. He began his classical musical training at the piano at age five, but it was his interest in electronic music as a teen that led him to start composing his own music. He studied both classical and electronic music composition at Sarah Lawrence College under John Yannelli and started his professional career as an assistant in Philip Glass’ recording studio in New York City.

Dave is perhaps best known for his enduring creative relationship with one of Hollywood’s most respected figures – Vince Gilligan. Since the remarkable pilot episode of Breaking Bad in 2007, Dave has written the original music for all of Gilligan’s projects. He scored all 62 episodes of that groundbreaking series and created its iconic opening theme. Actor/Producer Bryan Cranston stated: “With his music, Dave Porter has created another character for Breaking Bad. Evocative and meaningful, Dave’s work is an essential part of the storytelling.” Since then, Dave has also been behind all of the original music for Breaking Bad’s equally acclaimed spin-off, Better Call Saul, and helped bring the Breaking Bad universe to the big screen with his original score to Gilligan’s feature film El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie.

2024 kicked off a new chapter In Dave’s career — his first collaboration with Marvel Studios, Echo, is streaming now on Disney+.  The first project to be released under the new Marvel Spotlight banner, it was also the first Marvel series with a TV-MA rating. “The Marvel team made me feel at home right away and have created a television series full of all of the hallmarks that inspire me — real stakes, emotions, consequences, and a world in which all of the characters are always learning and evolving,” said Porter on his collaboration with Marvel.

Other credits in recent years include working with James Franco on his masterful film The Disaster Artist and collaborating with documentary visionary RJ Cutler on Murf The Surf, a 4-part series produced by Brian Grazer and Ron Howard.  He also loved working with creator/showrunner Rebecca Cutter on her groundbreaking Starz series Hightown, as well as AMC’s boundary-defying series Preacher – produced by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Sam Catlin.  Dave also recently wrapped up a decade long run as composer for the James Spader crime thriller series The Blacklist, one of the most successful television dramas of all time spanning more than 200 episodes.

Dave has twice been awarded ASCAP’s Composer’s Choice Award for Best Television Composer — at the inaugural event for the award in 2013, and once again in 2017. He was also bestowed the 2019 Citation Award by his alma mater Sarah Lawrence College for his creative achievements.
