The LP to CD Series Will Launch With Charles Bernstein’s APRIL FOOL’S DAY
Varèse Sarabande launched their first ever CD subscription series. Entitled LP to CD, the series will feature soundtrack albums culled from Varèse Sarabande’s vinyl vault that have never been released on CD to date and only available to subscribers. The first title in the series will be Charles Bernstein’s APRIL FOOL’S DAY, a long out of print and in-demand soundtrack album from the iconic and prolific film composer. The LP to CD subscription series consists of 12 previous unreleased soundtracks from Varèse Sarabande’s archives, with subsequent titles to be announced each month. Membership to the LP to CD series costs $10 per month, (plus shipping).
Each album in the LP to CD series is chosen for its quality and archival value. The individual CDs are authentically packaged in mini-LP replica jackets. Subscribers who pre-order for the year membership, (billed monthly), will receive a limited edition retro-styled mini vinyl record carrying case with their APRIL FOOL’S DAY shipment to be filled with each successive album during the 12 month subscription run. The pre-order period runs from May 15 – June 14, 2015.
After June 14, fans can join the subscription series on a month-to-month basis.
“Varèse Sarabande has a rich catalog of soundtracks which have never been released on CD,” said Darren Blumenthal, CEO. “As we have delved deeper into our vaults, we have located many fan favorites that had previously only been released on vinyl. We believe this subscription series will fulfill the requests of longstanding fans who commit to the series while also introducing a new generation of fans to some of these previously hard-to-find gems.”
The first soundtrack to be released in the LP to CD series is APRIL FOOL’s DAY, composed by Charles Bernstein. Bernstein has composed scores for over 100 motion pictures, including genre classics A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (the original), THE ENTITY, Stephen King’s CUJO, Dracula spoof LOVE AT FIRST BITE, and a wide variety of comedies, dramas and action films. He has provided music for Academy Award® winning documentaries MAYA LIN: A STRONG CLEAR VISION and the all-music film CZECHOSLOVAKIA 1968, as well as for the Tom Hanks Vietnam saga, RETURN WITH HONOR. His many made-for-television films include the Jane Seymour historical epic ENSLAVEMENT (EMMY® Nominated for Best Score), HBO’s Emmy Award-winning MISS EVER’S BOYS, the Michael Mann Emmy-winning 10-hour miniseries DRUG WARS, Hallmark Hall of Fame’s Emmy winning CAROLINE?, Jack London’s THE SEA WOLF (Emmy nominated for Best Score), and Emmy Nominated mini-series THE LONG HOT SUMMER, as well as the acclaimed historical mini-series SADAT.
When he is not writing music, Charles Bernstein is writing about music. National film critic Leonard Maltin calls Charles Bernstein’s award winning writings about music “stimulating, informative and fun.” Mr. Bernstein is currently elected to the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Board of Directors of The Society of Composers and Lyricists, and the Board of Directors of the ASCAP Foundation. He has taught on the graduate film-scoring faculty at USC, and holds an annual film-scoring seminar in the summers at UCLA Extension.
April Fool’s Day just happens to be the birthday of rich college student Buffy Deborah Foreman, so she invites a group of friends from Vassar over to her family’s island getaway to spend the weekend partying. Though some practical-joke shenanigans on the ferry over from the mainland lead to unexpected bloodshed and put a damper on the festivities, Buffy unleashes a flood of more benign pranks on her guests, setting a tone of giddy abandon. With plenty of randy guys and gals on hand and no parental supervision, it isn’t long before drunken escapades ensue. As the weekend progresses, however, guests begin to disappear mysteriously, and before long Buffy and friends find themselves huddling in terror in their remote getaway. The next ferry isn’t due until Monday, and the partygoers aren’t sure whether any of them will make it that long. The mostly Canadian cast of APRIL FOOL’S DAY includes Leah King Pinsent, daughter of actor/director Gordon Pinsent, and Amy Steel, a veteran of the second and fourth FRIDAY THE 13TH installments.
