Featuring Original Music By Clyde Lawrence

With Additional Music By Cody Fitzgerald
And Songs by Madeleine Peyroux, Stolen Jars, and Vince Guaraldi

Lakeshore Records will release THE REWRITE – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on February 24th and on CD May 5, 2015.  The album features the film’s original score by Clyde Lawrence (HARD SELL) with additional music by Cody Fitzgerald (HARD SELL).  Also on the album are songs by Madeleine Peyroux (“Don’t Wait Too Long”), Stolen Jars (“Folded Out”), and Vince Guaraldi (“Since I Fell For You”).

“The thing that made this score somewhat unconventional, and a very conscious decision I made with the director [Marc Lawrence], was the instrumentation,” said Lawrence.  “It seemed fitting, since the film was largely about the importance of some of the more understated and unglamorous aspects of life that Keith comes to appreciate, from the modest college town to the feeling of teaching something to one of his students.”

“Working on this score with Clyde and Marc was an amazing experience,” said Fitzgerald. “Clyde and I have such intensely different musical styles. Seriously we do. But because we respected and understood each other’s intentions so clearly, our music was able to blend together into something beautiful that I don’t think either of us could have made alone. And Marc, because he comes from a musical background himself, always provided the clearest notes a composer could ask for. It was the smoothest process.”

Clyde Lawrence is a composer, songwriter, and performer from New York City. He began playing piano at age four and started writing music soon after. Since being admitted as youngest member of The Songwriters Guild of America for his work on MISS CONGENIALITY (2000), Clyde has continued to compose music for major motion pictures. He has worked with and been produced by acclaimed songwriter/producer Adam Schlesinger (Fountains of Wayne/THAT THING YOU DO!); engineer Geoff Sanoff; and written for and performed alongside Grammy Award-winning jazz singer/producer Steve Tyrell.  In addition to his career as a composer, Clyde is an active singer-songwriter, regularly performing at venues and colleges around the northeast with his band, joined up front by his sister, Gracie.  He recently released his debut album, Homesick, and his songs are in rotation on radio stations in New England.

Cody Fitzgerald is a 22-year-old composer coming out of the burgeoning music scene of Montclair, NJ. Influenced by a diverse range of artists including Dirty Projectors, Elvis Costello, and Steve Reich, Cody’s music is both complex and emotionally gripping. When he released his first album under the name Stolen Jars at 18, Cody’s career was suddenly pushed forward when his music was picked up by Apple as the soundtrack for their Do It All iPad campaign. Since then, Cody has received a ‘Music By’ credit on a soon to be released Indie feature called HARD SELL and is in the process of finishing up a second Stolen Jars album. He has also scored a number of short films, including the recently released OPEN 24 HOURS, an Official Selection of the Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival.  Cody Fitzgerald is now finishing his Bachelor’s Degree in Music and Computer Science at Brown University.

Once upon a time, Keith Michaels (Hugh Grant) was an Award-winning Hollywood screenwriter, but divorce and a string of unsuccessful films have left him with nothing but bad debts and blank pages. So when his agent arranges a job as guest screenwriting professor at a remote university in upstate New York, a desperate Keith can’t say no. Initially hoping to give minimal effort to actual teaching so he can focus on his next script, Keith unexpectedly finds himself becoming invested in his students lives, including Holly (Marisa Tomei), a single mom looking to start her own new chapter. THE REWRITE features an all-star cast, including J.K. Simmons, Allison Janney, Chris Elliott, and Bella Heathcote.

“The first piece I wrote was the main theme for Keith’s (Hugh Grant) journey throughout the film.  It is called ‘Paradise Misplaced’, the same name as the film that Keith’s character wrote back in his heyday, earning his awards and praise,” said Lawrence.  “In constructing the different iterations of this theme, and all the film’s themes for that matter, I tried to keep enough elements consistent that the theme is thread through, but change enough so that the pieces feel emotionally distinct.”
