Music Composed by MATTHEW LLEWELLYN
Coinciding with the film’s September 12 premiere on Lifetime, MovieScore Media presents the analog synth score for The Murder Pact, the label’s fourth collaboration with IFMCA nominated composer Matthew Llewellyn. Inspired by the Edgar Allan Poe classic The Tell-Tale Heart, writer John Doolan and director Colin Theys (Deep in the Darkness, Wishin’ and Hopin’) give a new spin to Poe’s story which now revolves around four friends whose promising future at a prestigious university is jeopardized when they witness the accidental death of their classmate. As another student reveals she knows about their involvement, the friends panic and start to plot her murder. The Murder Pact stars Alexa PenaVega, Beau Mirchoff, Renee Olstead, John Heard and Sean Patrick Thomas.
Matthew Llewellyn is a returning guest with his fourth release on the label. He has been an integral member of Brian Tyler’s team working on high profile projects such as Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Now You See Me, The Expendables 2 & 3, and Final Destination 5. As a composer, Llewellyn wrote additional music forFar Cry 3 and John Dies At The End; he also provided musical arrangements for the video games Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. Branching out with his own composing career, Llewellyn has scored several feature films for the Chiller Network, including Dead Souls, and Deep in the Darkness – both of which have been issued by ScreamWorks Records; his yuletide comedy Wishin’ and Hopin’ is released by MovieScore Media.
“Colin and I agreed that this score needed a contemporary edge, something completely different than anything else we’ve done before” explains the composer. “Despite being entirely electronic, I approached this film as if I were scoring it with an orchestra using distinct electronic ‘sections’, colorful effects/textures, and character themes. Since the film is based on The Tell-Tale Heart, we incorporated a heartbeat-like sound into the score which is now a part of Lisa’s theme. It appears in various forms and instruments throughout the film and really helps create the drive that we were looking for.”
The album also includes the theme song “Deadly Romance”, co-written with singer Kathryn Baar (aka SPELLES).
