Honoring Excellence in the Craft of Music Supervision
The Guild of Music Supervisors announced today their top Honorees for the 15th annual awards ceremony. The Icon Award will be given to Grammy and Academy Award winning composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz, acclaimed for his songwriting in beloved films such as WICKED, GODSPELL, ENCHANTED and the animated classics POCAHONTAS, THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME and THE PRINCE OF EGYPT. The Icon Award was created to celebrate those who have made legendary contributions to the music and film industry. The recipient of the Legacy Award will be given to Music Supervisor Bonnie Greenberg known for her work on films like MY BEST FRIEND’S WEDDING, THE MASK, and THE HUNTING GROUND. Greenberg has produced numerous Gold and Platinum albums and received various awards for her craft in music supervision. The Legacy Award is bestowed to a Music Supervisor who has made an impact within the industry over the course of their career.
“The Guild of Music Supervisors Awards is a night of coming together in our community, and we need this more than ever. This year, we are thrilled to honor Stephen Schwartz and Bonnie Greenberg with our Icon and Legacy awards,” states GMS President Lindsay Wolfington and Vice President Heather Guibert. “Their individual contributions to the craft of storytelling with music are immeasurable and have had an indelible impact on our community.”
Previous recipients of the Icon Award include Robbie Robertson, Paul Williams, Diane Warren, Quincy Jones, Burt Bacharach, Kenny Loggins and Marc Shaiman, while previous recipients of the Legacy Award include Allan Mason, Pilar McCurry, Mitchell Leib, Maureen Crowe, Bob Hunka, Joel Sill, Gary Lemel and Chris Montan.

About Stephen Schwartz:
Stephen Schwartz composed the songs and co-produced the music for the blockbuster film adaptation of WICKED, and is currently working on WICKED: FOR GOOD. He also co-wrote songs and co-produced the music for Disney’s ENCHANTED and its sequel DISENCHANTED, as well as their animated features POCAHONTAS and THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME, and he wrote the songs and co-produced the music fort DreamWorks Animation’s first feature film, THE PRINCE OF EGYPT. For the live stage, in addition to WICKED, which is currently running on Broadway and around the world, Schwartz’s musicals include GODSPELL, PIPPIN, THE MAGIC SHOW, THE BAKER’S WIFE, WORKING, CHILDREN OF EDEN and the upcoming THE QUEEN OF VERSAILLES, opening on Broadway this fall. Mr. Schwartz has been inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame and has been given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Awards include three Academy Awards, four Grammy Awards, and a special Tony Award for his support of young artists.
About Bonnie Greenberg:
Bonnie Greenberg’s has been at the forefront of the entertainment business, integrating music and motion pictures for over three decades. She has produced and executive produced numerous gold and platinum albums and received various awards for her music supervision Hollywood Music in Media Best Music Supervision award for her work on the film THE LIFE AHEAD and an NAACP award for THE BEST MAN. Songs and scores she has executive produced have won Emmy, NAACP, and Golden globe awards and been nominated for Academy and Grammy awards.
Bonnie’s career began as an entertainment attorney. She has a law degree from Southwestern University School of Law, a master’s degree from Antioch College and a Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of Denver. She was a business affairs executive at MCA Records and Paramount Pictures, then pivoted her talents to merge music and film to become a sought- after Music Supervisor. She’s used her considerable respect and goodwill in the industry on 80 plus films including diverse classics such as MENACE 2 SOCIETY, WHAT WOMEN WANT, MY BEST FRIEND’S WEDDING, THE MASK, TANK GIRL, and HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS.
After getting a master’s degree in clinical psychology Bonnie pivoted again, turning her attention to documentaries and films that shed a light on issues, using music to help effectuate change in the world, films including THE HUNTING GROUND, CRACKED UP, FOUR GOOD DAYS, and RBG, plus the upcoming documentaries OCTOBER H8TE, MOVE YA BODY: THE BIRTH OF HOUSE MUSIC and THE WISDOM OF HAPPINESS.
She is currently an adjunct professor at Carnegie Mellon, MEIM program and NYU Los Angeles, where she teaches music supervision for motion pictures. She’s a member of the Television Academy, Motion Picture Academy and National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. She is one of the founding members of the Guild of Music Supervisors and serves on the benefits committee. Bonnie Greenberg continues to work tirelessly for the causes she believes in and serves all with her trademark integrity.
